Certified Orton-Gillingham Reading Specialist

The Orton-Gillingham method is an instructional approach intended primarily for use with persons who have difficulty with reading, spelling, and writing of the sort associated with dyslexia. It is most properly understood and practiced as an approach, not a method, program, system or technique. In the hands of a well-trained and experienced instructor, it is a powerful tool of exceptional breadth, depth, and flexibility.

Did you know that phonemic awareness and speech and language disorders are closely related to dyslexia? It has been shown that children who experienced speech-language disorders and/or auditory processing difficulties are at greater risk for dyslexia as they enter elementary school years.

As a speech therapist, I have researched and studied the Orton-Gillingham method and the relationship between reading difficulties and speech-language disorders. I have spent 100 hours in being certified as an OG reading specialist.
